Uhh oh…no ceiling boards left in the country!

Ceiling board shortage

The nightmare that is loadshedding has finally crept into the world of construction as we have noticed an alarming ceiling board shortage.

Representatives from Supertec in Centurion and Unlimited Building Supplies (UBS) in Kempton Park, leading suppliers in ceiling material, both confirmed that Gyproc, a ceiling board manufacturer, has experienced a shortfall in production because of the consistent power outages due to the implementation of consistent stage 4 loadshedding, resulting in a significant ceiling board shortage.

The UBS representative was optimistic though, citing an expected noticeable supply in boards from mid-March, this would be a result of the manufacturer sourcing alternative solutions to the power challenges that they face. But of course, this comes at a price (literally).

Supertec (through it’s rep) has confirmed an increase from Gyproc for ceiling boards from the 1st April 2023, which means an eminent increase in price from them as well as a supplier to ceiling installers, and UBS (through it’s rep) has confirmed to us an eventual price increase as well. This ultimately means that contractors would also need to increase the cost of their services to be able to continue to survive this tumultuous situation as ceiling boards become available. For now though, most ceiling contractors in the country are  left with no accessible materials to service their clients.

The situation is an unfortunate one that we all hope to overcome. Updates to costs will be communicated as they come. For more on this, visit our trusted suppliers websites below or contact us here for more information.
